Subject: Path Closed Behind Yountville Elementary School (in between Finnell and Yount Street)

The path behind the Yountville Elementary School, located in between Yount Street and Finnell Street is closed for tree safety purposes. Recently, a significant tree limb fell from the “Grandfather” Oak tree along Hopper Creek. Town staff had the Town’s arborist evaluate the tree. However, because the tree is a Heritage Oak, both the Town and the arborist are seeking a second arborist to evaluate the tree, especially focusing on what could be done to save the tree, if at all possible. Efforts to save the tree will likely result in significant limb and canopy sail reduction to balance the tree to compensate for the limb that fell off.

Given the information from the arborist that the limbs over the path could be subject to increased likelihood of falling, the Town is taking the precautionary action of closing the path out of an abundance of safety to protect pedestrians. The Town appreciates your cooperation in observing the path closure.
