Town of Yountville Fire Update Friday, October 13 3PM

Post Date:10/13/2017 3:31 PM

Town of Yountville Fire Update – 10/13/17 3:15 p.m.

Some good news to report. Napa County EOC officials report that the aggressive defensive positioning on the Nunns Fire along Mt Veeder today is working. The active fire is between Mt. Veeder Road and working towards Dry Creek Road but being contained at Mt. Veeder Road. County EOC advises that there is no immediate threat to the Town of Yountville and no evacuation - advisory or mandatory, is warranted at this time and weather conditions are favorable overnight. Wind conditions are expected to change tonight, but the anticipated winds from the north would push the fire edge south and back to where it already has burned. This is a favorable condition for the firefighters on scene. A large number of firefighting resources including the large 747 air tankers are working this fire front and reporting success with their efforts.

Active fire continues along Mount Saint John north of Oakville Grade near Rutherford in the very remote canyon and hills area there.

Fire crews also report that they have been successful in keeping the Tubbs fire in Calistoga from reaching the city limits.

Full containment will continue to take time with the number of fires ringing the Napa Valley and encircling Yountville which means air quality will continue to be very poor.

Yountville Cross Road is now reopened as is most of Silverado Trail south into the City of Napa. Roads off of Silverado Trail into fire impacted areas remain closed or limited to residents only.

Cell service remains spotty with coverage coming in and out intermittently. The Town has reports that ATT service is spotty in spite to temporary tower and that Sprint service is sporadic as well.

Air quality remains unhealthy and will remain so for the next several days. Please wear a breathing mask. Breathing masks should be N95 rated. The Town has a supply of n95 masks available at the Community Center.

The Community Center is open and we encourage you to come down for a cup of coffee, some popcorn and have a chat with your friends and neighbors, and get out of the house and away from watching TV coverage of the fire event. Bilingual counselors from Napa County Health and Human Services are on site if you would like to talk about the situation and how it is affecting you or your family. The Community Center and Library will be open on Saturday. Look for a more detailed message from our Parks & Recreation staff.

I will provide another Fire status update Saturday morning, October 14, 2017.
