Town of Yountville Fire Update - 10/17/17 8:30 am

Good morning Yountville and thank you for following the Town's update.

The Nuns fire remains active in the Oakville Grade area but does not pose a threat to Yountville.  This fire is burning within established fire perimeters with significant fire resources on scene.  Smoke activity is heavy at time. This Nuns fire will be active as it continues to burn itself out.  Defensive positions at Dry Creek Road have stopped fire west of the Town and Veterans Home.

We remain extremely appreciative of the outstanding work our local firefighters and those responding from throughout the State and other Western states to assist in this firefighting effort.  We are deeply sadden to learn of the death of first responder driving a water tanker trunk along the Oakville Grade.

Air quality, even in those bright sunny periods we have had, remains poor and use of an N95 breathing mask is stressed.  If you are returning to town or need another mask please stop by the Yountville Community Center where we have a supply.

Yountville Community Center has resumed its normal schedule of operations and they advised they are ready to welcome you all back with a big hug!

Tonight's Town Council meeting will proceed as scheduled at 6:00 p.m.

Some have asked where to donate to make sure the money stays local.  The Napa Valley Community Foundation has established a local relief fund.  The link to their site is attached.  http://www.napavalleycf.org/donate-to-the-disaster-relief-fund/

This will be the last "official" Town Update from me on the Fire Situation as we move forward with recovery and normal operations unless changes warrant.

Thank you all for the support, encouragement, and patience you have demonstrated during the Napa Fire Complex.
