“Texture in the Natural World” Art Exhibit Gallery at the Community Center to open May 17th

Subject: “Texture in the Natural World” Art Exhibit Gallery at the Community Center to open May 17th, 2018.

The opening reception “Texture in the Natural World”, a three-woman art exhibit will be Thursday, May 17, 5:30 p.m. at Gallery at the Yountville Community Center located at 6516 Washington Street in Yountville. The featured artists are Franci Claudon, Belinda Leake, and Angela Tirrell. Light bites and beverages will be provided.

Claudon is a largely self-taught artist, writer, and teacher. She studied in the mentorship program of artist Nicholas Wilton. Her contemporary work is acrylic on wooden panels, varying between dirty gritty grey, gleaming red, ghostly white and saturated blue. She is known for adding and subtracting, building layers of paint and collage, then excavating back through scraping and sanding. Her studio is in Angwin. Leake received a Master’s Degree in Visual Art and Design at the University of South Australia. She received first prize at the Adelaide Royal Show. The artist and her family moved to the Napa Valley in 2015. Her work has been chosen as the cover artist for Napa Valley Open Studios. Leake’s abstract landscapes continue to develop with freshness of a new color palette influenced by Napa Valley. To learn more about Belina Leake visit www.belindaleakeart.com.

Tirrell describes herself as a studio painter and muralist. She has taken art classes steadily in a variety of media since childhood. She founded a mural company in New York City at age 27 and began painting in studio in 1998. Her paintings on wooden panels incorporate textural elements such as sand, charcoal, glass shards, papyrus, insect carapaces and other found objects. Tirrell’s themes often focus on social justice. “Texture in the Natural World” will run through August 17 at the Gallery at the Community Center located at 6516 Washington Street in Yountville. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
