Subject: Jennifer Carvalho to Retire from Town of Yountville After More Than 38 Years of Service
Jennifer Carvalho, Recreation Supervisor for the Town of Yountville, has announced her retirement after more than 38 years of service. Jennifer began working for the Town of Yountville as a Pool Attendant at the Yountville Community Pool. She continued as a part time and seasonal employee until 1996 when she was hired as a three-quarter time Recreation Coordinator. Jennifer became full time in 2002. In 2004, Jennifer was promoted to Recreation Supervisor after successfully building relationships with the Napa Valley Unified School District and creating a before and after school program. Jennifer is the longest tenured Town employee.
Jennifer was born and raised in Yountville. Her career with the Town began early and continued into a life of public service. Jennifer held many roles within the Parks and Recreation Department over the years including working with youth and families, aquatics, trips and excursions, sports, contract classes and older adult programming.
Jennifer shared a few of her most highlighted memories during her career: When the aquatics team saved the life of Veteran Dutch Howling at the community pool in 1993; the Creation of the TEAM & YTX programs; working with the planning committee and consultants on the Community Center Project; and fundraising and taking the Yountville “Travelers” on the Disneyland Trip of a lifetime. Jennifer has also devoted time to local non-profits including the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Yountville Elementary School PTA, the Kiwanis Club of Yountville and Yountville Little League among others.
Jennifer’s positive impact on the community over three decades is shown in the close relationships and connections that Jennifer has with the residents of Yountville both past and present. Jennifer’s caring and community-oriented nature has helped to form the Parks and Recreation Department and the Yountville Community Center into the thriving space for community connections that it is today.
Jennifer will be missed as a Town employee, and we wish her the absolute best in her retirement. Town staff is developing plans for honoring Jenn’s career after the holidays and will share that information soon.
