Yountville Connection

Council Meeting Update

The Yountville Town Council met on March 7, 2024, to address a range of community matters. Commencing the session, the council honored March as American Red Cross Month, recognizing and commemorating the invaluable humanitarian contributions of the organization both locally and nationally. The Red Cross North Bay Chapter will be hosting an open house March 28 at the Napa Valley Community Foundation from 4-7 p.m.

Following this, a representative from the Mosquito Abatement District provided an update on ongoing efforts to mitigate mosquito and pest populations within the area. You can learn more about their resources on the District's website.

Council then discussed and approved the submission of a formal to the California Public Utilities Commission on behalf of the town council, advocating for the retention of landline services within Yountville. Emphasizing concerns surrounding emergency preparedness and connectivity, the council underscored the importance of maintaining traditional communication infrastructure in the community.

Most notably, the council approved the purchase and sale agreement for Yountville Elementary School site and other financial items. This decision signifies the council's commitment to strategic development and prioritizing ways to serve residents and businesses. To see the full meeting items and reports, check out the meeting stream and agenda packet.

An open house is tentatively scheduled for March 26 from 3 - 6 p.m. The open house will serve as an opportunity for community members to learn more about the acquisition and ask questions related to the property’s future. The vision is to create an immediate impact while planning a balanced project that includes park space, civic uses, and workforce housing. The Town of Yountville looks forward to engaging residents and businesses in discussing ideas for the 6.8-acre property.

Concluding the regular meeting, the Town Arborist provided an update on the health of redwood trees along Hopper Creek and on Jefferson Street. The council reaffirmed their commitment to Yountville's maintaining a healthy urban forest and acknowledged the importance of ongoing stewardship efforts.

A special meeting was also held before the regular meeting to consider appointments to the Parks and Recreation Commission (PRAC) and Napa Valley Transportation Authority Citizen's Advisory Committee (NVTA CAC). Vincent Courtney was recommended for appointment to NVTA CAC and Loreen Ruegg was appointed to PRAC. Thank you to all who applied and want to make a difference in town. We are grateful to have such an engaged and active community. The strong partnership is instrumental in making Yountville such a wonderful place to be!
