Floodgate Training 2024

The Town’s Public Works Department recently held its annual floodgate installation training, ensuring our team is ready to protect the Bella Vista and Rancho de Napa neighborhoods if the need arises. These floodgates are a critical final line of defense against potential flooding from the Napa River as part of the Yountville Flood Protection Project, which focuses specifically on Napa River risks—not Hopper Creek.

While these gates have thankfully never been deployed during a flood event, our Public Works crews stay prepared and well-practiced to act quickly and efficiently if the situation demands. Should that day ever come, the Town will promptly communicate with residents in the affected neighborhoods, providing guidance on safety measures, including whether to shelter in place or evacuate.

We’re committed to staying ready so our community stays safe!

Yville Days Cancelled Due to Heat

This holiday season, embrace sustainability by rethinking how you wrap gifts. Traditional wrapping paper often ends up in the landfill, but these eco-friendly alternatives can help reduce waste while adding a touch of creativity:

  • Fabric Wraps: Use scarves, tea towels, or reusable fabric for a stylish, waste-free option.
  • Brown Paper Love: Upcycle brown paper bags and enhance them with natural decorations like twine, dried leaves, or sprigs of rosemary.
  • Newspaper Chic: Turn yesterday’s news into today’s unique gift wrap. Add a splash of color with a ribbon or reusable bow.
  • Go Natural: Wrap gifts in kraft paper and embellish them with pinecones, cinnamon sticks, or other biodegradable accents.

Small changes make a big impact. Let’s celebrate the season with style and sustainability by wrapping smarter for a greener future.
