Finding Hygge in Yountville: Celebrating the Art of Cozy Living

As autumn settles into Napa Valley, Yountville comes alive with the spirit of the cozy season, a time for warmth, community, and savoring life’s simple joys. In Denmark, this feeling is called hygge, a word that captures the comfort of shared laughter, flickering light, and the sense of belonging that makes a place feel like home. Here in Yountville, hygge takes on a distinctly local flavor: golden vines glowing in the late afternoon sun, neighbors gathering for seasonal festivities, and the comforting aroma of something delicious simmering in the kitchen.

This October, we invite you to embrace the Yountville version of hygge, one rooted in connection, creativity, and the pleasures of everyday life. From the Yountville Blue Forum: Cooking as a Path to Wellness, where we’ll explore the restorative power of food and mindful eating, to Parks & Recreation’s annual Halloween Carnival and our first-ever Halloween Block Party, there are so many ways to come together and celebrate the season.

Whether you find your cozy moment at a community event, on an evening stroll through tree-lined streets, or gathered around the table with family and friends, we hope you’ll join us in savoring the warmth and wonder of fall in Yountville.

(Event times and locations can be found in the Upcoming Events section.)

Planning and Building Update Banner showing a blueprint image

Every project in Yountville, large or small, contributes to the charm, safety, and livability of our town. The Planning & Building Department works behind the scenes to ensure that growth reflects our community values by balancing innovation with preservation and supporting the local economy. Here’s how the Planning & Building team is putting these values into action across Town.

Le Labo on Wheels
On September 24, staff approved the temporary installation of Le Labo on Wheels using the Town’s newly adopted Temporary Use Permit (TUP) process. This new permitting approach proved efficient and effective, allowing approval shortly after the application was submitted. The mobile fragrance and body products lab is located at Estate Yountville, in front of V Marketplace, from September 25 through November 26, 2025. The project highlights how streamlined permitting supports business innovation while maintaining community standards.

Tina Stephens Boutique
The Tina Stephens boutique has relocated from its former space next to Cornerstone tasting room to the storefront previously occupied by Silver Trident. Located within the Primary Commercial (PC) zoning district, this area supports a variety of retail uses that contribute to Yountville’s walkable charm and local shopping experience. Staff is currently working with the boutique to bring new signage into compliance with Town regulations.

Building Code Updates
On October 7, 2025, the Town Council approved the first reading on an ordinance that would adopt 2025 California Building Standards Code, including several important local amendments. These updates prohibit new wood shingles and shake on roofs and exterior walls to reduce fire risk, reflecting Yountville’s commitment to community safety and wildfire resilience. Additional amendments establish more stringent fire sprinkler requirements and ensure operational permits are obtained for temporary tents larger than 200 square feet. Together, these changes strengthen local fire prevention and public safety.

Zoning & Design Review Board
The October 14, 2025, meeting of the Zoning & Design Review Board (ZDRB) has been cancelled.

Parks and Rec Update

This month, Parks and Recreation is celebrating the creativity, wellness, and togetherness that make Yountville such a special place to call home. From festive traditions to new ways to connect, programs are designed to bring neighbors together and strengthen our sense of community.

At the Community Center, the Yountville Arts annual Scarecrow Display is filling the plaza with color, imagination, and a few friendly frights. Each scarecrow tells its own story, crafted with care by residents, families, and community groups, including a special entry created by residents of the Veterans Home that offers a fun and interactive photo opportunity for all ages.

Beyond the pumpkins and hay bales, the Parks and Recreation Department continues to nurture well-being through connection. The Yountville Wellness Fair on October 21 brings together health partners from across Napa County to support a healthier, more resilient community with free flu shots, local resources, and wellness information for all ages.

New this year, the Pumpkin Carving Contest adds a playful touch to the season, inviting residents of all ages to express their creativity and connect through shared celebration. Then, as neighbors gather for the Halloween Carnival on October 25, laughter, imagination, and togetherness take center stage. These moments remind us that creativity is one of the ways we connect most deeply, reflecting Yountville’s spirit of community pride and joy.

Whether you’re celebrating creativity, caring for your health, or sharing a smile with a neighbor, Parks and Recreation is here to make this cozy season memorable for everyone.

What Is Cryptocurrency? A Simple Guide

Cryptocurrency is a type of money that exists only in digital form. Unlike cash or coins, you can’t hold it in your hand. Instead, it’s stored and used online. People use cryptocurrency to buy things, send money, or invest, just like traditional money.

How Is It Different from Regular Money?

Cryptocurrency isn’t issued by a government or managed by a bank. It’s decentralized, meaning no single organization controls it. You can send it directly to someone else without needing a bank or credit card company.

What Is Blockchain?

Blockchain is the technology that makes cryptocurrency work. It’s like a digital ledger, or record book, that keeps track of every transaction. Instead of being stored in one place, this ledger is shared across many computers around the world. Every time someone sends or receives cryptocurrency, the transaction is added to the blockchain. This makes it very secure and hard to tamper with.

Common Types of Cryptocurrency

  • Bitcoin – the first and most widely used
  • Ethereum – used for more than just payments
  • Litecoin – designed for faster transactions
Each type has its own features and uses.

Why Do People Use Cryptocurrency?

  • To invest and potentially earn profits
  • To send money quickly, especially across countries
  • To buy goods and services online (though not all stores accept it)

Things to Keep in Mind

Cryptocurrency can be exciting, but it’s also unpredictable. Its value can change quickly, and there are scams to watch out for. If you’re curious, it’s wise to learn more and talk to someone knowledgeable before getting involved.

Public Works Crossing the Street

The Town recently reached an important milestone in the Washington Corridor project with the activation of the new four-way stop on October 6. This improvement is designed to enhance safety and traffic flow for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians traveling through the area. In addition, crews are preparing for the upcoming storm season with maintenance work underway near Mulberry along Hopper Creek. Improvements to the Oak Circle spillway are also in progress to strengthen local stormwater infrastructure and help reduce the potential for flooding. These projects reflect the Town’s continued commitment to maintaining safe, resilient, and well-functioning infrastructure throughout Yountville.
