Steve Rogers Gallery
On Display: October 12 – December 1
Artist Reception: October 12, 5:30 - 7 PM
Yountville Arts is proud to present the opening reception for “Napa Valley Seasons & Places…the paintings of Paul Youngman” on Thursday October 12, 5:30 to 7 PM at the Steve Rogers Gallery at the Yountville Community Center. Beverages and light bites will be served. This engaging exhibit of ‘plein air’ painting will be on display from October 12 – December 1.
‘Plein air’ painting, simply defined, is leaving the four walls of the studio behind and experiencing painting outdoors. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists.
Youngman is familiar to locals for his paintings of iconic sites in Yountville and the surrounding Napa Valley. He sets up his portable easel to capture what he sees in the rich colors and depth of oils. “My paintings have the essence of early California plein air artist’s view of color and changing light but with a contemporary sophistication” explained Youngman. He is a member of the California Art Club and a signature member of the Oil Painters of America. He majored in fine art and graphic design at UCLA and became an architectural and freelance illustrator. After 20 years in commercial art, he expanded upon his natural ability as a painter.
Youngman has been featured in a number of art magazines as well as a coffee table book, ‘Art of the American West’. His paintings have appeared in movies including “Bottle Shock”, “Bridge of Spies” starring Tom Hanks and “Wine Country” with Tina Fey.
While residing in Santa Barbara, Paul joined the Lee Youngman Gallery in Calistoga, CA in 1991. It wasn’t until 1994, when he relocated to Napa Valley and married Lee Youngman, that he became the major painter of the beautiful Napa Valley he is today. His paintings found a place in collectors’ homes nationally as well as in Europe.
The gallery sadly closed after 35 years of operation after enduring three fire evacuations and the pandemic. Paul and Lee relocated to Yountville in the Napa Valley, enjoying the beauty and community of the small town.
Gallery Hours: Monday through Friday, 9AM -4PM, Evenings and Weekends by appointment
