[ARCHIVED] Message from the Town Manager - Mandatory Boil Water Notice Information

Message from the Town Manager News Flash Format

Dear Residents and Businesses,

The Town of Yountville shares your concerns and understands the inconvenience caused by the recent mandatory boil water notice issued for our community.  We are working closely with the Veterans Home that operates Rector Reservoir who received the positive test on a water sampling.  Your safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us, and we understand that receiving a boil water notice can be disconcerting. We are fully committed to resolving this situation as quickly as possible, and we are in close communication with the necessary authorities and experts to ensure a timely resolution.

Here's what you need to know:

1. Safety First and Stay Informed:

Although the regulations and recommendations are frustrating, we are forwarding the best information we have that will keep everyone safe.  We will keep you updated throughout this process. Look for timely updates via email, our social media platforms, and our website. We will provide you with the most up-to-date information on the situation and when it is safe to resume regular water usage.

2. How to Properly Boil Water:

During the boil water advisory, it is vital to follow these steps to ensure your safety:

  • Boil all water intended for drinking, cooking, and brushing your teeth for at least one minute.
  • Allow the boiled water to cool before using it.
  • If boiling water is not feasible, consider using bottled water as a safe alternative.
    1. A potable water filling station has been set up at Fire Station 12. Please bring your own container between the hours of 8:00 am to 6:00pm.
    2. Bottled water is available at the Napa County Library – Yountville on Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Remember to sanitize and disinfect any containers used for storing boiled water.
  • Do not drink water filtered at home.

3. Caring for Your Pets:

We understand that your pets are cherished members of your family. They, too, require safe water during this period. Here's how to ensure their well-being:

·         Boil water for your pets, just as you would for yourself.

·         Allow the boiled water to cool to a suitable temperature for your pets to consume.

·         If you have concerns about their water, consider providing them with bottled water as a safe alternative.

·         Maintain the hygiene of their water bowls and containers, cleaning and disinfecting them regularly.

We recognize that dealing with these recommendation is inconvenient and can be stressful.  Please know that we are working diligently to restore normal water conditions as swiftly as we can. Your patience, cooperation, and understanding are genuinely appreciated as we navigate through this challenge together.  We will be working hard with the Veterans Home to propose joint solutions that can prevent these incidents in the future.  Stay tuned and thanks for your patience and being an integral part of our community.

Please stay safe and take care.
