As part of the interim use plan for the former Yountville Elementary School, now referred to as the Yountville Commons site, the Town has installed fencing and amenities to open an off-leash dog park for the Yountville community while the long-term planning process continues.
Town staff has been hard at work greening up the groundcover, seeding to encourage new green growth and working on various improvements for the Grand Opening on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 6 PM. Dogs and their families are welcome to attend and celebrate the grand opening of this interim use of the Commons Site.
The 20,000 square foot fully enclosed park includes two double entry gates and utilizes the dugouts from the previous field as shaded seating areas for two-legged’s. Entry is accessible from the Hopper Creek Path that strolls behind the property from Finnell Road or by crossing the playground/blacktop area from the west. The park is one large open space for four legged’s to explore, run, chase and fetch while their two-legged family members enjoy watching the play and chatting with neighbors. Also located in the enclosed area is access to fresh water and bowls to keep hydrated and additionally, new outdoor furniture is on order and will be installed in the coming weeks. In the meantime, temporary furniture will be placed in the shaded area of the park to enjoy.
As the formal planning process for the Yountville Commons site continues, we will assess how the dog park is being received and will make changes as needed. Town staff has assembled a citizen Canine Commons Liaison Group that will assist with overseeing the park and providing feedback to staff. We have also created a webpage that can be found at https://townofyountville.com/187/Parks-Facilities that shares the rules of the park and provides a link to give feedback to town staff through the See-Click-Fix feature.
