Prepare for an Emergency

Overview

Emergency preparedness helps protect your family, home, and community during disasters such as earthquakes, wildfires, or power outages. The Town of Yountville encourages every household and business to make a plan, stay informed, and get involved in readiness efforts.

Need to know

  • Emergency alerts: Sign up for Alert Napa County to receive real-time updates.

  • Power outages: Visit PG&E's outage center for current information and resources.

  • Assistance programs: Yountville offers support to seniors and individuals with access and functional needs (AFN) during emergencies.

  • Community participation: CERT and COAD provide training and volunteer opportunities.

Preparing for an emergency means planning ahead. Start by gathering key supplies, making a family communication plan, and staying connected to reliable information sources. If you or someone in your household needs extra help during an emergency, you can request assistance in advance by completing a voluntary form through the Town.

Steps

  1. Sign up for emergency alerts

    • Text your ZIP Code to 888-777 to receive emergency text alerts.

    • Register for Alert Napa County at readynapacounty.org.

  2. Create your emergency plan

    • Make a family communication plan.

    • Build an emergency supply kit with food, water, medications, and important documents.

    • Prepare your home for hazards like earthquakes and wildfires.

  3. Request assistance if needed

    • If you or someone you know has access or functional needs, submit the AFN Voluntary Information and Assistance Form. This helps first responders provide appropriate support.

  4. Stay informed during emergencies

    • Monitor official sources like Alert Napa County, PG&E, and local media for instructions.

    • Follow Town alerts on social media and the Town website.

  5. Get involved in community readiness

    • Join the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to receive hands-on emergency training.

    • Participate in VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) to support coordinated response and recovery efforts.

What’s next

Review and update your emergency plan at least once a year. Discuss your plan with family or neighbors and refresh your emergency kit as needed. In the event of a disaster, follow official instructions and stay connected to local updates. Afterward, check in on neighbors, especially seniors or those with disabilities, and report any urgent concerns to Town services.
